Vertigo might be classified as a niche and fall within the alternative comics category, but countless gems have been gleaned from their stellar lineup over the years. Numerous hits and their subsequent spinoffs have inspired nearly two decades of comic book enthusiasts. As an imprint of DC Comics,Vertigo tailors to the indie crowd by presenting a more sophisticated and gritty lineup opposed to the more traditional superhero comic books represented by DC and Marvel.
One such series to successfully spin out of Vertigo is Fables; Fables encompasses a wide range of fairy tale characters and plots by placing them in contemporary circumstances and locales. Fables has been highly successful, and subsequently many offshoots of the core series have been created. Once all of these series are taken into account a truly fantastical universe develops and falls into smooth and familiar rhythms.
